Germandrones, a leading developer of unmanned aerial systems based in Berlin, is opening a new production and development facility at Mönchengladbach Airport (MGL). This step strengthens the successful cooperation with MGL, which started in 2021 with the SkyCab project. Germandrones now has its first location outside of Berlin.

The goal is to advance ongoing joint research projects. These include SkyTRACKplus, in which the company is developing safe procedures for operating air cabs and drones. Another aspect is drone logistics in cities. Here, Germandrones is focusing on the development of transport solutions for medical samples or organs to get them to the right place quickly and safely. In addition, drones offer an environmentally friendly complement to rescue helicopters and small aircraft to provide support in time-critical emergencies.

The proximity to the universities in Aachen, the aviation cluster in the Rhineland region and the direct flight options for drones played a decisive role in the decision for Mönchengladbach. Five employees were initially hired for the new location.
