Münsterland

Münsterland: An innovative region with a strong industrial SME sector.

The Münsterland region boasts a robust foundation of small and medium-sized industrial enterprises and globally successful family-owned businesses, as well as an internationally connected research hub with a strong innovative spirit. The city of Münster and the districts of Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt and Warendorf are home to approximately 1.6 million people. The region's proximity to the Netherlands provides companies with access to a cross-border economic and innovation hub, making Münsterland an attractive location for international supply and value chains.

Companies benefit from a diverse economic structure, quick decision-making processes and close collaboration between businesses, academic institutions and regional networks. With more than 75,000 students at eleven universities and renowned research institutions, the region fosters an environment conducive to innovation and ensures access to qualified professionals. The German-Dutch innovation program, TECH.LAND, connects companies, startups, universities and research institutions in both countries, accelerating the transfer of new technologies into commercial applications.

Future-proof industries from battery technologies to robotics

The Münsterland region is committed to future technologies and sustainable value creation. The region has gained international recognition through BatteryCity Münster, a leading European hub for battery research and technologies. Other key areas of innovation include the circular economy, renewable energy and hydrogen, agribusiness, the healthcare industry, utilities, smart production systems and robotics. Close collaboration between companies, academia and regional networks continuously produces new products, technologies and business models in these innovation fields.

As North Rhine-Westphalia’s “Green Powerhouse”, the Münsterland region offers excellent conditions for companies seeking to make their production processes more sustainable. Significant capacity in wind, solar and bioenergy, the expansion of modern energy and hydrogen infrastructure and a high level of support for transformation projects create attractive conditions for investment in a climate-neutral economy.

The Münsterland region is appealing not only for its economic strengths but also as a place to live, work and vacation. It combines the dynamism of a strong economic and scientific hub with short distances, attractive cities, livable communities, affordable housing and a diverse cultural and recreational landscape. This high quality of life makes it easier for companies to attract and retain qualified professionals, making Münsterland an attractive place to work, conduct research, start a business, and live. MÜNSTERLAND. THE GOOD LIFE.
