New facility in Werne expands plastic recycling capacity

At its new location in Werne, RCS Plastics GmbH will be able to process approximately 100,000 metric tons of plastic material per year. This new facility will expand the RCS Group's production capacity. A standalone plastic recycling facility is being built north of the group’s existing headquarters on a 6.5-hectare site. Groundbreaking took place in August 2026 and the facility is scheduled for completion by early 2028.

The new facility will primarily produce high-quality recycled materials for demanding applications. These include caps made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polystyrene, as well as PET trays and beverage bottles. In the future, the HDPE caps will be transformed into a recycled material that can be used for food packaging. This will help create additional recycling loops for recycled plastics.

The RCS Group currently employs more than 240 people across its three business divisions: Waste Management, Raw Material Recovery and Plastics. RCS Plastics specializes in the recycling of PET bottles, among other things and according to the company, it is one of the largest suppliers of recycled PET in Europe. The new facility is expected to create around 60 additional jobs, including five trainee positions.
