A new data center is set to be built in Lippetal. The US company Blackstone has signed a purchase agreement for a plot of land spanning over 27 hectares. The company plans to invest several billion euros to build a hyperscale data center, which will be one of the largest investments of its kind in Germany. Construction of the facility is expected to be completed in the early 2030s.
The data center will provide space, power, and cooling for various applications, including cloud computing, AI, and industrial processes. Lippetal is an ideal location for the project. Nearby substations ensure a strong and robust power grid, and the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences in particular guarantees the availability of qualified specialists. Additionally, the area boasts good fiber optic connectivity and a dense transport infrastructure, including a nearby freeway and the Hamm-Datteln Canal.
However, the purchase agreement will not take effect until further conditions are met at the site. Planning will begin in the near future. Blackstone chairman James Seppala is confident, saying, “We believe that Germany, and NRW in particular, are attractive locations for developing state-of-the-art data centers. We look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders throughout the approval process."
