Messer focuses on green hydrogen in NRW

Messer, the Krefeld-based specialist for industrial, medical and specialty gases, is promoting the hydrogen economy in NRW with two pioneering projects. To this end, the company has brought two partners on board and founded joint companies - the district of Düren and the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota.

Messer and the district of Düren are jointly building a plant for the production of green hydrogen at Brainergy Park Jülich under the umbrella of HyDN GmbH. With an output of ten megawatts and a production capacity of up to 180 kilograms of hydrogen per hour, it will be one of the largest plants in Germany. Commissioning is planned for fall 2025. The green hydrogen produced will primarily be used to power fuel cell buses in the district of Düren.

Shortly before, Messer had founded SympH2ony GmbH together with Toyota Tsusho Europe. This cooperation offers companies, cities, local authorities and port operators throughout Europe integrated solutions for setting up or converting to hydrogen-powered vehicle fleets. The offering includes zero-emission vehicles, hydrogen filling stations and flexible supply options.

These projects not only strengthen Messer's position in the field of sustainable energy solutions, but also consolidate NRW's role as a pioneer in hydrogen technology.
