This year for the first time, the RWTH Aachen University of Technology has succeeded in positioning itself among the top 100 universities in the world.
In the ranking of the specialist magazine Times Higher Education, the university attained 78th place. Last year, RWTH made a considerable leap from 156th to 110th. With this year's place among the top 100, RWTH has currently achieved its best ever result in this ranking. The improvement is also evident in a German context: While RWTH was eleventh last year, this year it occupies sixth place. Times Higher Education is one of the most important university rankings worldwide, selecting the best universities in the world once a year. The ranking incorporates five categories: teaching, research, citations, international orientation and third-party funding.
In addition to this achievement there is currently another reason to celebrate at RWTH Aachen University: The Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) recently commissioned a highly dynamic driving simulator. Its purpose is to research the networked and automated traffic of the future. Thanks to its dynamic nature, it acts as a tool for the reproducible presentation and evaluation of innovative vehicle systems. In the ika driving simulator it is, for example, possible to easily and reliably demonstrate how a driver will drive on his own responsibility in the future and what possibilities exist to delegate the task of driving to the vehicle. In addition, the device can be used to secure the effectiveness and acceptance of systems and functions due to its non-hazardous representation and exact repeatability of critical traffic situations.
