STARK

Strengthening the transformation dynamics and new beginnings in the mining areas and at the coal-fired power stations

As part of the Structural Reinforcement Act, the federal program “STARK” is intended to make a significant contribution to ensuring that coal regions such as the Rheinisches Revier master the transition to a climate-neutral economy. To this end, the program promotes investment in tangible and intangible assets – including for companies that are newly settling in the Rheinisches Revier.

What is being funded?

“STARK” supports investment and the settlement of companies whose technologies are driving the transition to a climate-neutral economy. These companies include manufacturers of:

electrolyzers, batteries, wind turbines, heat pumps, solar panels and
equipment for CO2 capture, utilization and storage.

Notice:

Companies that manufacture key components for these technologies are also eligible for funding. Moreover, companies that produce or recover raw materials that are critical for the technologies and their key components can also apply for “STARK” funding.

Rheinisches Revier: Rhein-Kreis Neuss, District of Düren, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Aachen urban region, District of Heinsberg, District of Euskirchen, City of Mönchengladbach

Ruhr Metropolis: Cities of Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Hamm and Herne, District of Unna

Who is being funded?

Companies of all sizes (SMEs and large companies) that are based in the funding areas or want to set up a branch there.

How much support is provided?

The funding rate depends on the size of the company, the funding location, the eligible investment amount and the legal basis for state aid. The funding amount also results from the individual details of the project and must be checked on a project-specific basis.
