United Arab Emirates: Insights into the biotech and pharmaceutical industries

NRW is one of the leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology hubs in Germany and Europe, contributing about one-fifth of the total revenue of the German biotech industry. 

For companies from NRW, international partnerships and collaborations also open up new opportunities. One example is the United Arab Emirates: The country is emerging as a global hub for innovation in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. The Emirates are making targeted investments in research and production and are promoting technology transfer and partnerships with international companies – particularly in areas such as oncology, diabetes, specialty drugs, and vaccine technologies.

From January 24 to 29, 2027, NRW.Global Business is organizing a company trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Companies from NRW will gain insights into local market conditions and regulatory framework of the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. The program includes visits to various companies and institutions, as well as the World Health Expo (WHX) Dubai, one of the most important global trade shows for health and medical technology. A networking evening with companies exhibiting at the NRW state pavilion at WHX is also planned.
