The textile and clothing industry is embarking on a comprehensive transformation. For the industry to become climate-neutral and sustainable, future technologies such as robotics, AI, and biotechnological processes must be integrated. The "Textile Factory 7.0" initiative is creating a forward-looking technology and development center for textile value creation in Mönchengladbach.
The technology and development center is scheduled for completion in 2029. It will then house machines and equipment for the development of on-demand production and smart textiles, as well as biological and textile engineering laboratories to facilitate collaboration between industry and research. This will enable companies to promote sustainable production methods, the circular economy, and digitalization in the industry.
Textile Factory 7.0 is a significant catalyst for structural change in the Rhenish mining region. "Textile Factory 7.0 marks a new beginning for the Rhenish mining region and sends a strong message about future-proof jobs, sustainable production, and regional innovation. Businesses, scientists, and local authorities are collaborating to demonstrate how transformation can be achieved in concrete terms: through high technology, a circular economy, and educational opportunities that encourage young people to remain in the region," said Mona Neubaur, NRW's Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
