Hydro makes record investment in industrial location Grevenbroich

The Norwegian aluminum manufacturer Hydro Rolled Products GmbH inaugurates its new automotive line and invests 130 million euros.

In the new extension building of the production plant for aluminum body panels the company will manufacture state-of-the-art aluminum car doors, thereby quadrupling its capacity for the automotive industry. Under the motto "Aluminum for the Mobility of the Future", the company aims to build safer, more comfortable and above all more environmentally friendly cars. The stable, yet very lightweight design reduces the fuel consumption and therefore the CO2 emissions of vehicles.

Both Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg and German Chancellor Angela Merkel took part in the opening ceremony. Merkel described the large investment of 130 million euros as "an excellent birthday gift for Hydro's anniversary in Germany and a promise for the future". Solberg underlined the need to secure and create high-quality industrial jobs in the region.

Hydro is a leading industrial company in Norway and a global aluminum supplier. In NRW, the company has branches in Grevenbroich, Bonn, Neuss and Dormagen. In 2016, Hydro invested 45 million euros in a recycling plant for beverage cans in Neuss. The company also operates the leading research center for the aluminum industry in Germany in Bonn.
