The future belongs to smart batteries, and NRW has developed into a leading science location in this field. In particular, the MEET (Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology) Battery Research Center at the University of Münster is advancing innovative technologies. In the future, the approximately 150 scientists will be supported by experts from the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago.
As part of the NRW-USA Year, the University of Münster signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the renowned US research institute in July 2024. The agreement covers joint events, conferences, workshops and the exchange of researchers and scientific resources. It intensifies the German-American cooperation that has already existed for five years.
MEET develops solutions for batteries as energy storage systems for renewable energies, intelligent building technology, electromobility and air taxis. The partners want to strengthen battery cell production in Europe with sustainable and high-performance batteries.
"We expect our collaboration to deepen our understanding of battery materials and pave the way to an electrified future," says Argonne Lab Director Paul Kearns. Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels, Rector of the University of Münster, adds: “We are delighted to be able to apply our expertise in the field of battery research together with one of the most renowned national laboratories in the USA.”
