The Luxembourg producer of industrial carbon blacks is building an 8,850 square meter central warehouse in Cologne.

Go-ahead in Cologne: Orion Engineered Carbons intends to expand business at its largest production site with a new distribution center. "Every year in this plant we produce 160,000 metric tons and more than 100 different grades of carbon black which must be treated and handled very carefully," explains Dr. Sandra Niewiem, Senior Vice President Specialty Carbon Black and EMEA Region. Orion Engineered Carbons, a Luxembourg-based chemical company, has been active in the Rhineland since 1932.

12,400 pallets can be accommodated in the new logistics center, which will be capable of processing around 100 trucks per day. Thanks to an automated material handling system and a space-optimized shuttle warehouse concept, the flow of goods will be made even more efficient. The new central warehouse is scheduled to go into operation at the end of the year.

The construction project is being realized by Grieshaber Logistik GmbH, specialists in the design and implementation of individual logistics solutions.
