French e-bike refurbishment specialist Upway opened its second German "UpCenter" – a refurbishment center for e-bikes – in March. After Berlin, the e-bike recycling sector is now to be strengthened in Düsseldorf. In doing so, the Paris-based startup is creating around 150 new jobs and sending out an important signal: "With our new location in Düsseldorf, we want to give a positive economic boost to the region and further promote the sustainable use of e-bikes," explains Toussaint Wattinne, co-founder and CEO of Upway. "Our mission is to make high-quality used e-bikes accessible to more people while conserving resources."

Start-up extends the life of used e-bikes through professional refurbishment. This sustainable approach reduces CO2 emissions by up to 60 percent compared to buying a new bike. Upway is working with bicycle manufacturers, retailers and leasing companies to put used e-bikes back into circulation in a targeted and efficient way.

Founded in Paris in 2021, the company has two branches in Germany and others in Paris, Mechelen, New York and Los Angeles.
