The Cologne-based telecommunications company NetCologne opened its first sustainable data center in Cologne-Lövenich in September after a construction period of only ten months. It is the company's fourth data center and another important contribution to strengthening the digital infrastructure in the Rhineland metropolitan region. Resource- and energy-efficient technologies are used, such as 100% green power and waste heat recovery. Photovoltaic systems and green spaces help to reduce the environmental footprint.

The new data center is specifically designed to handle the increasing volumes of data generated by technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G. The facility provides approximately 1,000 square meters of space for up to 400 server cabinets, 280 of which can be leased to businesses. The facility's modular design allows for flexible expansion to meet growing data center needs in the future.

Around 1,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable have been laid for fast and reliable data transmission. Thanks to the local availability of such data centers, companies in NRW benefit from higher data security and lower latency times. In addition, data sovereignty is maintained because important information is stored and processed locally.
