The Neuss plant, now owned by Swedish tissue paper manufacturer Essity, was built more than 60 years ago. For almost as long, it has been producing paper handkerchiefs under the Tempo brand. Today, instead of branded products, tissue paper is produced only for major retail partners such as Aldi, Lidl and Edeka.
The Neuss site is now being expanded to become the largest plant in Essity's newly defined private label division. The planned investment will not only secure the existing 450 jobs, but also create new ones.
As part of the realignment, both the product range and production volume will be increased: In addition to paper handkerchiefs and toilet paper, two new production lines will produce wet and tear-resistant kitchen towels. In addition, the annual volume of 110,000 tons of all types of pulp products is to be increased by 20 to 30 percent.
From Neuss, Essity will supply customers in Germany, France and the Benelux countries within a maximum radius of 500 kilometers. The company benefits from its central location in Europe and is clearly committed to NRW as a business location.
