With the Regenerative Innovation Centre, the Toshiba Corporation aims to establish a pioneering technology hub in Europe focusing on technological development and social implementation in the fields of CO2 neutrality and circular economy (Carbon Neutrality & Circular Economy or CN-CE).

Staff in the Regenerative Innovation Centre will address technological and societal issues around CN-CE from different perspectives – with the aim of realizing CN-CE across Europe and worldwide. The spectrum of technical areas will include "components" such as batteries and semiconductors, "energy" with a special focus on renewable resources, hydrogen and energy management, "negative emissions" with CO2 capture/storage/use, and "digital platforms" for the use of energy and CO2 data.

RWTH Aachen University and the Wuppertal Institute support the Innovation Center in an advisory capacity. Among other things, RWTH Aachen University contributes its expertise in the field of energy technologies to the project. The Wuppertal Institute is considered a leading international think tank for impact and application-oriented sustainability research. Its work focuses on shaping transformation processes toward a climate-friendly world.
